In 2015 after 2 failed lottery bids the museum was nearly closed but then the Council did a u-turn and decided to pursue a new bid (see 2015-2020 lottery bid). However, this was cancelled due to Covid. The museum closed in 2018? for a refurbishment to catch up on decades of repairs that were long overdue and re-opened in 2020. I did a tour of the museum and wrote an article in 2021 with photos of the new refurbishment
