Local walkers and volunteers, with the support of the Council, raised money to save a unique information panel on Pewley Down. A Justgiving.com crowdfunding page has been set up for people to donate and it explains, “Weʼre raising £2,630 to renovate an iconic nature tableaux depicting the animals and insects inhabiting the idilic countryside around Pewley Down, Guildford.” They are already a quarter of the way there with people donating £10 or £20 each. It is the idea of local resident, Harriet Matthews. She explains that she wants to ensure that the “educational joy shared by the many ramblers pausing at this nature tableau continues for generations to come.” “From as far back as I can remember,” she says, “whenever I was out walking along this section of the North Downs, I would eagerly look forward to seeing this hand-painted depiction of the various flora and fauna that buzzed, sung, grew and scurried all around me. Sadly, as is its wont, time has started to leave its oh so familiar calling card – the paint has lost its original lustre and the wooden back panels have started to bow and deform. What this project would like to achieve is to replace the old painting with one that holds as faithfully as possible to the original, but also includes a few minor updates.” If you wish to contribute to the is project please visit: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/harriet-matthews?utm_term=dDAn6x77b |
