Bellfields and Slyfield Area
To the north of the A3 one crosses the river. The imposing 19th century Stoke Mill is the home of the Surrey Advertiser local newspaper (formerly in Ward Street). The Wey Navigation is one of the oldest in the country and the first lock was Stoke Lock.
Today the area to Slyfield is dominated by housing estates. Back in 1900 it was farmland. The recently demolished old School house was one of the few buildings in the area and further along on the hillside was Stoke Hill House whose owner Francis Paynter, as rector of Stoke Church build several churches in the area
